Our School

Monrovia High School

Monrovia's first Common School was built in 1857 by Mexican American War and Civil War Veteran, William Tansey.  The school was built on the corner of State Rd 39 and Washington Street which is the current location of Citizen's Bank.  In 1880, a new building was constructed that included Monrovia's first high school curriculum with the first alumni graduating in 1884.  In 1912, a new building was built that housed all grade levels for Monroe Township until an elementary (current Middle School) was built in 1957.  In 1966, our current building was constructed connecting it to the existing elementary (current Middle School), and the Branch McCracken Memorial Gymnasium was dedicated in 1971 after Alumni and Hall of Fame IU Basketball Player and Coach, Branch McCracken.  The high school had building projects in 1980, 1990, and 2017 which included the Center for the Performing Arts, new wrestling room, and weight room facilities.

We are proud to say we were the 4th school in the state to facilitate a Future Farmers of American (FFA) Program.  We also introduced Advanced Placement (AP) courses into our curriculum in 2001 with US History, Literature, Calculus, Biology, Physics, and Honor Roll!  We are a Best Community in Music Education recipient and have had 8 Lilly Endowment Scholarship Recipients!  In addition, our Athletics Programs continue to compete at a high level with 7 state qualifiers in just a last few years!  We are extremely proud of our small town school that offers great opportunities for students.

Current enrollment is just over 520 students.
