Choir

Our Mission:  The Monrovia choir program seeks to create a welcoming and safe environment for students to be able to learn and grow in their musical journey, bring music to life through reading music, learning about how music fits in our society, and performing music.

We offer choir in 6th grade through 12th grade in our choir program. 8th grade through 12th grade can participate in a “standing and singing choir” (concert choir) or a competitive show choir which includes singing and dancing and at least 1 PE credit.

Programs

• 6th grade choir - Band or choir is required in 6th grade. In 6th grade choir, students will learn to use proper vocal technique, music literacy, performance etiquette, and gain an understanding of how music fits in history and current societies.  Students will be required to attend 2-3 extracurricular performances and purchase concert attire. Shirts for performances will be provided from fundraising funds.
• 7th grade choir - 7th grade choir is a continued learning experience to help strengthen the use of proper vocal technique, music literacy, performance etiquette, and understanding how music fits in history and current societies. Students will be required to attend 2-3 extracurricular performances and purchase concert attire. Shirts for performances will be provided from fundraising funds .
• Concert Choir  - Concert choir is a non-auditioned choir open to 8th grade students through their 12th grade year. This choir will be a continuing learning experience to help strengthen the use of proper vocal technique, music literacy, performance etiquette, and understanding how music fits in history and current societies. Students will be required to attend 2-3 extracurricular performances and purchase concert attire. Shirts for performances will be provided from fundraising funds.
• Show Choir -Show choir is an auditioned, competitive choir open to 8th grade through their 12th grade year. This choir will be a continuing learning experience to help strengthen the use of proper vocal technique, music literacy, performance etiquette, and understanding how music fits in history and current societies. This choir will also be a dance class where the students will be getting beginning to advanced dance experience throughout both semesters. This class is a Co-curricular class and there will be many outside performances that the students will be required to attend for a grade starting in June through May each year. The students will have extracurricular rehearsals one to three times a week. Our competition season is November through March.

• Multiple placements at the ISSMA State Show Choir Competition!
• Awarded best vocals and best choreography at multiple competitions across central Indiana!
• Consistently win first place at Music in Our Parks at Kings Island.
• Consistently received Gold Ratings at the Indiana State School Music Organizational contests.
• Can be seen in the public at the Monrovia Festival Parade, Hometown Christmas Festivities, and the Monrovia Christian Church women’s dinner.
